Double Note: Technically the first OVA is the best way to start this series off with, but for simplicity and not knowing much on its release I’ll brief on season one.
-Episode one overview:
The episode starts out with a female client nagging about her husband cheating on her. Akutade the demon detective listens and reasons her problem as his young part-time assistant Rinko Sakuma takes the minutes of this issue. Akutade affirms to her that he can take this case. After their consulting session, Akatade takes Sakuma to the back room where an occult summoning circle can be found. Here he summons the lovable and dangerous Azazel the Deadly Sin Demon of Lust, Ooo-La-La!!! After his offering, he heads out to do a job with it barley described to him. He fails the same job two times and on the third attempt Akutade offers Azazel freedom from his servitude.
Sakuma feels sorry for the chibi devil and clearly explains a solution that’s desired for his third attempt. Motivated by her virgin request and tease of freedom, he sets out to do his job and completed it with a bitter sweet resolution. Akutade scolds Sakuma as she feel into the genie wish trap since she was not too clear on the details of Azazel’s job. Free from Akutade, Azazel day dreams of bootie calls. Akutade quickly stabs Sakuma and finalizes her contract as he destroys his soon after. Here, Azazel and Sakuma are master and familiar.
Akutabe a demonic detective and his young part-time assistant Rinko Sakuma use demon familiars to solve public issues or maintain public peace between the demons and angles. The story focuses on Sakuma and her first demon familiar as they solve a few cases and undergo their misadventures. Each familiar typically represents a deadly sin. Some episodes are sequential but most of the time each episode, except at the beginning and ending of a season, is a stand-a-lone watch.

Some more details about the demons:
For the Demon to be summoned it takes three to five things: Grimoire, Summoning Circle, Offering , *The Summoner’s Blood, and a *Contract. (* One/first time only.)
The demons in Hell are bruiting and monstrous in detail, but anything summoned in Akutabe’s summoning will hex the creatures. This Hex will change these ferocious Juggernauts into cute and cuddly midgets. Cute and cuddly boys, now hand me a Tootsie-Roll. This also helps the user better control their monster as they are weakened physically to the point of a stuff animal; however, the demons can still use their powers.
- How does the grimoire affect the summonee?
- What kills these satanic beings?
- Will Santa Clause the Barbarian exist?
- What’s used as an offering?
- How can we kill these demons?
- Does Moroku live in the hearts of children?
- Please watch to find out the answers to these questions.
The animation is done very well and the animation/art style is typically smooth on the main characters or people who matter. Every once in a while, the animation/art style will change to fit what emotion the character will feel.
Another wee bit that sticks out is how the other people are drawn. They the beautiful people by silhouette, but the people are drawn facially based on how their personalities really reflect who they are. This is kind of like how I see the world.
Animation Rating: 3.5/5 (B) I enjoyed it rather well but some details many lose a small few.
From Pandemic to the Strawberry Song, I find the songs to fit as needed. The openings are chaotic and energizing, the back ground music (BMG) fits the mood of the situation, and the ending has kind of a slow jingle to calm the viewer down from the excitement. This is very similar to how Outlaw Star’s music is executed, but these shows are different genres and use different kinds of music.
Sound Rating: 4/5 (B) I will sing these songs at a Karaoke Bar.
*Overall Production Rating = 3.75/5 (B)
• Catchy Music
• Zany Characters
• Easy on the eyes animation
• Loved the raunchy and gory comedy
• Some characters tend to show up and drop off after an episode or two
• Gore is censored on the version I watched
• Weird start on how to watch it
• The magical girl doesn’t have a spin-off like what Tenchi Muyo or The Soul Taker did.
I am glad that The Lucky Penny has picked this title up and announced this at Anime Expo.I enjoyed this show and ate it all up. From start to finish, I’m waiting to watch the forth OVA. I’m not sure but I think these OVAs are actually ODAs, but I can’t confirm that detail either. This show is raunchy, rude, violent, and hilarious. While watching each episode I want to know what new calamity or resolution our characters will come across. The second season is a continuation of the first season.
*Pro’s, Con’s, and Other Thoughts Rating: 3.5/5 (B) How to start is confusing sort of a Tenchi Muyo flash back.
Note: This coming paragraph is a spoiler. To skip spoilers please go to “Recommended sequence to watch” section after the next horizontal line.
Okay you satanic lovers of the seven deadly sins, you’re probably wondering when or if Lucifer will show up and what does he represent. Please forgive me but I don’t have any background knowledge of the seven deadly sins. He does show up but only in OVAs three and I think a latter to release OVA as he represents pride.
Recommended sequence to watch:
• OVA 1
• OVA 2 (takes place after episode 4 of Season 1)
• Season 1
• OVA 4 (it explains a character towards the end of Season 2)
• Season 2 (Z)
• OVA 3
- Plot: 3/5 (C) Not that plot heavy but recalls scenes when necessary.
- Performance: 4/5 (B) Bravo!!!
- Pace: 4/5 (B) This was not a chore to watch.
- Characters: 3.5/5 (B) The drop off of some characters was annoying but not agonizing
- Production Quality: 3.75 /5 (B) Animation: Smooth and takes risks, but may lose some people. Sound: Awesome!!!
- Pro’s, Con’s, and other thoughts: 3.5/5 (B) Funky Beginnings
- Overall total: 3.63/5 (B) Go pre-order it when available.
Note: Due to my own belief and further defining anime as a pop art, no rating will ever receive a 0, 1, or 5 (a Z, F, or A in my book). For this reason is that times will change as opinions. Anything can be far greater or worse than before. That’s just human triumph and error. What was needed?
• Better use/familiarity of characters in some spots
• Another season or more OVAs
• The Manga to coming over to the U.S. if it hasn’t
• Hot Topic Merchandising
• Both Males and Females may enjoy this but some factors may follow.
• The “harsher” violence/gore scenes are like watching something happen to a stuff animal as we get to watch the blood explode or censored gore curdle/show out of their bodies.
• This series has a crude & sick sense of humor that might not be for some.
• If you are a bible basher, stick your nose in the word of Jesus and let my hobby alone!!!
• Pet Shop of Horrors
• Zatch Bell
• Death Note
• Digimon 02 (Stretch)
Pre-orders are not yet available.
